First day: From Hinterstein to Willersalpe (1459 m): ascent 600 m, walking time 2-3 hours
By bus to Hinterstein,from the Bergsteiger Hotel Grüner Hut through the woods via Wildfräuleinstein to the rustic Willersalpe. There is no electricity or warm running water at this hut, but as much spaghetti as you can eat and good beer in the evening. Homemade cheese can be bought.
Second day: From Willersalpe to Vilsalpsee and to Tannheim: ascent 577 m, descent 866 m, walking time 3-4 hours
From Willersalpe up a steep trail that takes us in serpentines to Zirleseck. Then we descend on a steep and rocky path in serpentines (ca. 150 m) into a valley and then climb back up 200 m. Via Rossalpe we descend to the beautifully located Vilsalpsee, where we make a refreshment stop.
From the lake we can go either on foot (1 hour) or by bus to Tannheim
Third day: From Tannheim to Hinterstein: ascent 663 m, descent 924 m, walking time 5-6 hours
From Tannheim we take the bus to Schattwald, walking from there to Obere Stuiben Alpe, where the track climbs first gently and later more steeply up to Bischofsmann, where there is a lovely view.
We go back down to Zipfelsalpe, where we may stop for refreshments. From there through the woods back down to Hinterstein.
